2026 Summer Intern - Analytical Development (Molecular Biology)

Genentech
United States, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Jan 06, 2026
The Position 2026 Summer Intern - Analytical Development (Molecular Biology) Department Summary

The Analytical Development team in Philadelphia is part of Roche's Gene Therapy technical development function (PTCG); building the roadmap for product safety and efficacy. By characterizing viral capsids, we provide the data that brings life-changing medicines to patients. Our Molecular Biology group is seeking a motivated Co-op to advance AAV analytical capabilities. You will develop advanced methods for residual DNA characterization, offering a unique opportunity to apply molecular biology expertise to a high-value, GxP-supporting analytical project.

This internship position is located in Philadelphia, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Gain hands-on experience with Digital PCR (dPCR) workflows- alongside other molecular biology techniques to characterize viral vector residual DNA.

  • Work alongside Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design and execute wet-lab experiments and conduct initial method pre-qualification studies.

  • Analyze experimental data to assess the size of residual DNA impurities, contributing to the team's understanding of product quality.

  • Document experimental protocols and results in laboratory notebooks and present technical findings to the research team.

  • Collaborate with senior scientists to integrate the final quantitative dPCR assay into the existing Molecular Biology platform.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related life science field.

  • Hands-on experience with fundamental nucleic acid handling and molecular techniques (e.g., standard PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic laboratory techniques, including meticulous pipetting and solution preparation.

  • Proficiency in data processing and analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel, with an ability to interpret complex quantitative data.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, with a passion for problem-solving.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 6 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
