Job Summary

The Building Master Electrician is responsible for the safe, reliable operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems throughout Hobby Airport facilities. This role serves as the subject matter expert for electrical systems and provides leadership, oversight, and technical guidance to other electricians, building technicians, and vendors while ensuring compliance with NEC, local codes, FAA/TSA requirements, and airport standards.

Location: William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) - Houston, TX
Schedule: Full-Time | On-site
Reports To: Facilities Manager


Essential Duties

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair airport electrical systems including:

    • Medium- and low-voltage distribution systems

    • Switchgear, transformers, panels, and breakers

    • Emergency power systems (generators, ATS, UPS)

    • Lighting systems (airfield support, terminal, parking garage, exterior)

    • Fire alarm interfaces and life-safety systems (electrical scope only)

  • Serve as the lead electrical authority on-site, providing guidance and mentoring to electricians and building technicians.

  • Perform advanced electrical diagnostics and repairs with minimal supervision.

  • Coordinate and oversee electrical work performed by outside contractors and vendors.

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC, local/state codes, and airport regulations.

  • Support preventive maintenance programs and recommend system upgrades or improvements.

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.

  • Respond to emergencies, power outages, and after-hours service calls as required.

  • Maintain accurate documentation, service reports, and compliance records.

  • Participate in safety meetings and enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures.

  • Collaborate with facilities, operations, and airport stakeholders to minimize service disruptions.


Minimum Requirements

  • Active Master Electrician License (State of Texas or recognized reciprocal license).

  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience, preferably in:

    • Airports, hospitals, data centers, or other critical facilities.

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • NEC and electrical safety standards

    • Emergency power and life-safety systems

    • Electrical distribution systems and controls

  • Ability to work independently and lead others.

  • Proficient with CMMS systems, service documentation, and basic computer applications.

  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in an airport or aviation environment.

  • Experience supporting 24/7 operations and mission-critical facilities.

  • Familiarity with TSA, FAA, and airport badging requirements.

  • Experience coordinating with inspectors, AHJs, and airport authorities.

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.

  • Willingness to work overtime, nights, weekends, or on-call rotations as needed.

Compliance & Clearances
  • Must pass criminal background check, drug screening, and TSA airport badging requirements.

  • Valid driver's license required.
