Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Dining Logistics Manager, work as the Lead for the Dining Logistics Support Team. This position is responsible for oversight of the Logistics Assistants and Student Staff, including the receipt, issuing, delivery, warehousing, handling, transportation of Food and Supplies, equipment, installation, assembly, event set-up, and proper disposal of Student Housing & Dining Services (SHDS) furnishings, equipment, and supplies to support the work of the department following UC Davis processes. The Lead Storekeeper oversees and assists the daily work of student assistants during the summer months (and directs the work of other student logistics assistants during the academic year) to accomplish these functions and other minor facility-related projects as needed. The lead is also responsible for reviewing and approving timesheets for the logistics student workers.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with planning and assessing workload and priorities, organizing and assigning work to employees.
  • Receiving experience includes reading detailed information on packing slips, shipping vouchers, purchase orders, and inventory lists to verify accuracy and correlate with actual items received or on hand. Experience with following up on monetary and unit transfers of equipment, food products, and supplies.
  • Experience handling and operating powered and non-powered material handling equipment (e.g., climbers, gas and electric forklifts, stock pickers, pallet jacks, hand trucks, flat carts, mail tub cages, etc.). Understanding of safety regulations, safe working practices, body mechanics, lifting techniques, and equipment (hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, etc.) typically used in moving large furniture and equipment items.
  • Demonstrated storage and organization skills.
  • Customer Service skills including strong verbal and interpersonal skills for interacting and communicating effectively with student staff, colleagues, clients, contractors, and vendors in person, in writing, and by phone.
  • Skills working with computers and in a Windows environment, including e-mail, Word, Excel, and other computer programs, as necessary to maintain recordkeeping systems, reporting, and accessing Internet resources.

  • Experience working in a high-volume Food Service Operation
  • Experience driving vehicles (vans and/or up to 3-ton capacity delivery trucks) and using a hydraulic lift gate to deliver merchandise in busy pedestrian/bicycle traffic areas. Understanding of state driving codes and regulations (exhibit safe driving practices, observing all campus and state driving codes/regulations).
  • Knowledge and experience with Asset Management Systems - including Inventory Controls, Inventory Systems.
  • Knowledge of campus inventory procedures and software specific to the university.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owned/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community.
