SUMMARY


Performs all the duties of a Foundry Helper. Sets control and operates air ladle and rollover melting equipment. Undergoes training for more advanced casting techniques.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  • Reads engineering practices for each work order to ensure adherence to approved processes.
  • Loads and unloads preheat ovens.
  • Sets and verifies oven temperatures.
  • Gets casting area ready for each pour by ensuring that all needed supplies are available and ready for use.
  • Checks to make sure correct alloy is used in accordance with the requirements of each work order.
  • Loads preheated molds on rollover or inside vacuum chamber to begin the casting process.
  • Pull mold from rollover or vacuum chamber after metal is poured and places it in designated area.
  • Apply hot top to mold as required.
  • Ensure that all personal protective equipment is in good working order.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment.
  • Complete all required documentation.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work area.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



LANGUAGE SKILLS:


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and co-workers.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, and decimals.



REASONING ABILITY:


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Ability to operate or be trained to operate a forklift truck.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
