CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Sherwin-Williams is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Global Director of Occupational Safety and Health to lead the development and implementation of safety and health strategies across our global operations. This critical leadership role will drive the advancement of our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management System, promoting best practice sharing, reducing risk, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of strategic vision, technical expertise, and collaborative leadership to guide global safety initiatives that protect employees, enhance operational performance, and align with corporate objectives. This role will serve as a key advisor to leadership, championing a proactive safety culture and ensuring the integration of best practices across all divisions and regions.



  1. Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive global safety and health strategy aligned with corporate EHS objectives.
    • Lead enterprise-wide safety initiatives to reduce risk and enhance performance across all global divisions.
    • Ensure strategic alignment of safety initiatives with organizational goals.

  2. Learning & Culture Building

    • Collaborate with cross-functional corporate teams to foster a proactive safety culture.
    • Drive continuous improvement and employee engagement through targeted education and communication.
    • Apply Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to enhance operational efficiency and workplace safety.
    • Integrate Human Factors Engineering to reduce errors and improve organizational effectiveness.

  3. Risk Management

    • Collaborate strategically to position the EHS Management System for proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of safety and health risks across global operations.
    • Review comprehensive incident investigations and root cause analyses for serious events.
    • Translate investigation insights into actionable improvements and robust corrective/preventive measures.
    • Promote continuous risk reduction and strengthen organizational safety resilience.
    • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant recordkeeping across all applicable operations.

  4. Fleet and Driver Safety & Compliance

    • Oversee the development and execution of global fleet and driver safety strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Oversee accident prevention, compliance monitoring, and training programs.
    • Leverage advanced technologies (e.g., AI systems, telematics) to enhance safety and operational efficiency.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, Safety Management, or a closely related field.


Preferred:



  • Master's degree (MS) and professional certifications in Safety or Health (e.g., CSP, CIH).


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:



  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in safety and health management or a related EHS discipline, preferably within a global operational context. At least 10 years of leadership or management experience. Strong working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO, DHS).


Preferred:



  • 20+ years of experience in safety and health management, including a minimum of 15 years in a senior leadership or management capacity.


TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:



  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of federal, state, local, and international safety and health regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO, DHS), with the ability to interpret and apply complex requirements to global operations.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Skilled in assessing regulatory impacts, developing cost-effective compliance strategies, and proactively mitigating organizational risk. Experienced in negotiating with regulatory agencies to resolve issues and minimize disruptions.
  • EHS Analytics & Systems: Proficient in using EHS performance measurement systems, safety analytics, and data visualization tools to monitor trends, identify improvement opportunities, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated excellence in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide safety initiatives. Strong ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and align safety strategies with corporate objectives.
  • Communication & Engagement: Exceptional ability to translate technical and regulatory information into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences, including executive leadership, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Project & Program Management: Experienced in overseeing and coordinating multiple concurrent projects across departments, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and timely execution.
