Position Summary We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director of Lease Accounting to lead and manage all aspects of lease accounting across the organization. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with ASC 842 and other relevant accounting standards, overseeing the lease accounting team, and partnering cross-functionally with Real Estate, Legal, Procurement, and FP&A. The ideal candidate will also have deep experience managing subleases and associated revenue streams, ensuring accurate recognition and reporting. Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the lease accounting function, ensuring compliance with ASC 842 and other applicable standards.
- Own the end-to-end lease accounting process, including lease classification, journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures.
- Manage accounting for subleases, including revenue recognition, billing, and reporting.
- Oversee lease accounting systems and tools Trullion, ensuring data integrity and process efficiency.
- Collaborate with Real Estate, Legal, and Procurement teams to review lease and sublease agreements and assess accounting implications.
- Drive continuous improvement in lease accounting processes, controls, and automation.
- Prepare and review lease-related disclosures for external reporting.
- Support internal and external audits related to lease and sublease accounting.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and training to internal stakeholders.
- Lead and develop a high-performing lease accounting team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- CPA required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in lease accounting.
- Demonstrated experience managing subleases and associated revenue recognition.
- Deep understanding of ASC 842 and other relevant GAAP standards.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and lease accounting software.
Preferred Experience
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or national firm).
- Experience in a company with a large lease and sublease portfolio.
- Prior involvement in system implementations or process transformations.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods during investigations and audits.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Regular travel to stores, regional offices, and distribution centers required.
- Work hours may vary based on case urgency, including nights or weekends.
