Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm and Life Safety Technician II to support the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and servicing of commercial fire alarm and life safety systems. This field-based position involves hands-on work including device installation, low-voltage cabling, system integration, and compliance with NFPA codes and AHJ standards. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term growth potential, technical training, and advancement in the life safety industry.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install, service, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems including control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and power supplies.
- Work with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems from manufacturers such as Notifier, Silent Knight, Fire-Lite, EST, or Gamewell-FCI.
- Program fire alarm panels and devices according to specifications and code requirements.
- Conduct functional and acceptance testing of fire alarm systems per NFPA 72 and AHJ requirements.
- Install and terminate low-voltage fire alarm and life safety cabling (18/2, 18/4, 22/2, shielded cable).
- Pull, dress, and route cable through commercial buildings using appropriate supports (J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, conduit, etc.).
- Mount and wire field devices such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, strobes, and horns.
- Integrate fire alarm systems with sprinkler monitoring, elevator recall, door release, and other life safety interfaces.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Maintain organized documentation of installations, testing results, and service reports.
- Collaborate professionally with general contractors, project managers, and inspectors.
- Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety protocols, including proper PPE usage and jobsite cleanliness.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of commercial fire alarm installation or service experience.
- Strong understanding of NFPA 72, ADA, and local fire codes.
- Experience with at least one major fire alarm panel manufacturer (e.g., Notifier, Silent Knight, EST, Gamewell-FCI, Siemens, Simplex, etc.).
- Ability to program fire alarm systems or work closely with commissioning personnel.
- Familiarity with life safety integrations and code-mandated sequences of operations.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.
- NICET I or II certification in Fire Alarm Systems - highly preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and work at heights (ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts).
- Required Tools: Multimeter, hand tools, cordless drill, punchdown tool, measuring tape, PPE, work boots (steel/composite toe), and tool pouch.
