Staff Research Associate III - Ophthalmology

Description

Under the
direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Staff Research Associate III
(SRA III) is responsible for executing cellular and molecular techniques as
part of the basic, translational and clinical research. Duties include the cell
culture of primary cells and cell lines as well as other molecular biology
techniques including but not limited to cloning, mutagenesis, sequencing,
polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Western Blot, immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry,
and cryosectioning. The SRA III will perform imaging acquisition and imaging
and data analysis, keep good documentation records in compliance, assist with
pre-clinical experiments and actively participate in qualifications and
clinical manufacturing part of a Phase I clinical trial.

The SRA III
will also be in charge of lab management and lab maintenance including but not
limited to overseeing lab activities ensuring that a safe, clean, organized,
well equipped/stocked and compliant environment is maintained.

Qualifications

All
Required:

  • Bachelor's
    degree in life science (not including psychology) and or equivalent experience
    and/or training

  • Knowledge of
    molecular biology techniques

  • Skills and
    extensive experience in human and mouse cell culture technique

  • Knowledge of
    cell culture, including thawing cells, culturing cells and freezing cells

  • Skills in
    cryosection

  • Skills in
    isolating and purifying high quality DNA and RNA

  • Skill in
    subcloning of cell lines

  • Ability to use
    molecular biology software

  • Ability and
    experience to perform immunohistochemistry

  • Ability to
    perform protein analysis by gel electrophoresis and Western Blots

  • Experience with
    tissue and cell imaging and analysis

  • Ability to
    establish and maintain records and supply stocks

  • Skill in
    maintaining the lab and equipment in working condition

  • Ability to
    establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers

  • Demonstrated
    experience using general lab equipment such as pipettes, centrifuges,
    balances,incubators, thermal cyclers, dry blocks, shakers, autoclaves,
    water baths, liquid nitrogen tanks,DNA synthesizer, pH meter, etc.

  • Ability to work
    with mice, setting up breeding pairs and recording births and weaning animals

  • Ability to
    plan, execute and coordinate all the GMP/GLP activities related to the
    pre-clinicaland Phase I clinical projects in collaboration with the
    research teams

  • Knowledge of
    GLP and GMP

  • Ability to
    manage and maintain the lab ensuring that a safe, clean and compliant
    environment ismaintained

  • Ability to work
    on multiple projects, often changing from one task to another

  • Ability to
    establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel both in
    andoutside of the laboratory group

  • Communicate
    clearly, concisely and accurately in verbal and written formats

  • Ability to
    summarize and present data
