Job Overview

Responsible for the operational day-to-day activities of the pharmacy technician staff and for ensuring consistent maintenance of general pharmacy operations throughout the hospital. The supervisor will support the Pharmacy operations leadership team and ensure that the front-line technician team members prepare and dispense sterile and non-sterile medication in accordance with the medication order and in adherence to requirements established by CHCO, the state board of pharmacy, federal law and other regulatory agencies where appropriate.

This working supervisor will play a key role in day-to-day operations of our outpatient pharmacy, including fulfillment duties, optimizing operational duties while also providing critical leadership support. Key responsibilities of the supervisor role will include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of bedside delivery and prescription fulfillment
  • Providing direct supervision and support to pharmacy technician staff
  • Coordinating training, scheduling, and timekeeping for team members
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives and compliance auditing
  • Collaborating with care teams to ensure seamless discharge workflows

Additional Information
Hours per Week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Monday - Friday, variable hours between 0700-1800. Based on the needs of the department, this role may require minimal weekend support.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in leadership activities for department, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives; evaluates team performance. Defines and maintains internal processes for section; supports customer service standards and handles operational section. Serves as a champion of organization culture, influencing culture change to support section objectives.
  • Facilitates the development, maintenance, and implementation of hospital and department operational policies and procedures related to regulatory requirements for medication use, preparation, storage, restrictions, and administration.
  • Supervises day to day activities of operational technician staff. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership. Serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership and pharmacy staff.
  • Participate in department and hospital wide committees representing the pharmacy where appropriate.
  • Works on complex projects; performs project management activities. Provides technical expertise on programs, processes, and best practices.
  • Participates in sustaining and implementing quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
  • Helps to oversee daily adherence to standard operational procedures and policies as required by CHCO, USP Chapters 797, 795 & 800, and Colorado State Board of Pharmacy rules & regulations.
  • Actively works with the leadership team to maintain technician competencies, understanding and oversight of the fundamental practices and precautions for preparing and dispensing high quality hazardous drugs to prevent harm to patients, minimize exposure to personnel and minimize contamination of the work and patient-care environment.
  • Performs quality assessments for accuracy and appropriateness of doses, compounded and packaged. This includes sterile and non-sterile products prepared in pharmacy and pharmacy satellites. Escalates any findings to leadership as appropriate.
  • Oversees and supervises activities of technicians, making sterile and non-sterile preparations and preparing or dispensing doses. Ensures that pharmacy products of the highest quality and accuracy are prepared, dispensed, and delivered to the patient or storage area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience
    • Ideal applicant has at least one (1) year of outpatient pharmacy experience
  • Certification(s):
    • State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
    • Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $28.61 to $42.92
