Position Highlights The University of Arizona's College of Information Science invites you to apply for the role of Career Readiness and Student Internship Coordinator. The Career and Engagement Professional focuses on providing meaningful career-preparation programming and maintaining strong post-graduation employment metrics for the College of Information Science. This position will prepare students for career-focused internships, coordinate programs with site supervisors, help students prepare for the job market, and collaborate with other staff and faculty across the college. This position will prepare customized and timely assessment protocols and other analyses that can be used to inform programs, target services for specific student populations across all twelve academic degree programs in the college, as well as guide other employment and career-oriented initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Internship Program Coordination

  • Meet with students to explain and support them in pursuing credit for career-focused internship opportunities.
  • Act as the point of contact for the academic advisors to direct students to opportunities and help students find internships.
  • Maintain a working/collaborative relationship with a small set of faculty who serve as instructors of record for approvals of internship, and as well as working with those faculty in collecting final assessments, managing any conflicts with students, faculty, or site supervisors, as well as ensuring final grades are posted.
  • Coordinate with the graduate student services team as well as the undergraduate academic advising team to direct students toward internship opportunities (paid or unpaid) and to ensure students are enrolled in academic credit as needed.

Career Readiness and Professional Development

  • Help students prepare for professional interviews, develop abilities to articulate their academic work and skills, as well as craft relevant resumes and cover letters.
  • Aid students in creating a LinkedIn profiles and creating a professional online presence.
  • Assist students in identifying their unique professional, transferrable, and functional skills relevant to the career market and listed work opportunities.
  • Work with other staff to ensure students have opportunities to develop personalized career plans, as needed.
  • Prepare and manage online career-prep training modules that can be utilized in internship classes or other courses.

Data Assessment and Reporting

  • Evaluate internship placements and identify improvements for reporting purposes.
  • Develop reports on internship and job placement outcomes, employment trends, etc.
  • Share important findings with graduate student services, associate and assistant deans, as well as the undergraduate advising, marketing, and recruiting teams.
  • Work across teams to manage all undergraduate and graduate exit surveys, coordinating distribution and collection.
  • Use Analytics and other tools to collect and analyze data to understand student population(s) that can inform development and implementation of career and engagement programs and activities.
  • Effectively communicate findings gained through data analysis, both verbally and in writing.

Event Planning and Engagement

  • Coordinate with Information Science events team, working across deans and staff teams, as well as Career Center leadership, to produce specialized networking events as well as other offerings like 'resume review hours' or 'career night' type events.
  • Work to communicate across marketing teams, event teams, and the Career Center to ensure events are properly advertised, manage RSVPs as needed.
  • Collaborate with engagement and career professionals across campus as well as the campus Student Engagement & Career Development on engagement and career initiatives.
  • Assist with InfoSci clubs, organizations, and other activities happening among student government groups.

Internal Partnerships and Employer Relations

  • Help facilitate MOUs with the college business team, partnerships office, and the campus research contracting office as needed by internship host sites.
  • Coordinate with the InfoSci partnerships team when new opportunities arise.
  • Use existing systems to maintain a current record of internship sites and employment-focused opportunities that are relevant to and shared with students in the College of Information Science.
  • Communicate with and maintain ongoing relationships with site supervisors in coordination with staff teams and faculty advisors across the college.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Knowledge of career planning and student development best practices.
  • Familiarity with academic advising principles.
  • Awareness of current labor market trends and industry needs.
  • Knowledge of professional communication standards.
  • Skilled in promoting events with collaboration with other teams.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to ensure good collaborative working relationships with fellow staff, faculty, students, and other partners.
  • Strong ability to cultivate and sustain positive and productive working relationships internal and external to the college and university.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and present data regarding program effectiveness.
  • Ability to develop new initiatives to enhance student career readiness.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of related work experience in academic advising, student services, or other related industry.
  • Master's degree preferred or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience.
  • Education and/or experience in student development, helping professions, career counseling, or related field in higher education. Previous higher education settings could include academic advising, academic support programs, new student orientations, student life, scholarship and financial aid, or any related student development areas.
