Laboratory Technical Staff Assistant Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Technical Staff Assistant Manager is responsible for the coordination of daily laboratory operations and allocation of resources across the laboratory to ensure that all objectives of the laboratory are met.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. Performs high complexity testing in one or more sections of the laboratory in accordance with policies and procedures accurately and on time; demonstrates competency and proficiency with respect to all laboratory technical testing.

3. Performs troubleshooting of instruments and equipment as needed; notifies the Clinical Laboratory Specialist of problems and contacts appropriate service personnel.

4. Completes operational requirements by scheduling personnel to optimize productivity and minimize unbudgeted hours.

5. Provides assessment of staff's ability to perform the responsibilities of their assigned duties and ensures employees meet all regulatory and safety requirements; reviews and verifies the accuracy of test results and quality control results; may duplicate work of staff to confirm test results; re-evaluates methodology, makes recommended changes and assists in test interpretation; determines if further testing should be performed.

6. Communicates and complies with existing policies and procedures and assists in implementing new policies and procedures with technical employees.

7. Participates in the interviewing, hiring and orientation of technical staff in an effort to obtain and retain highly effective personnel.

8. Participate in the assessment of technical staff including coaching and performance reviews.

9. Models appropriate communication with physicians, patients, coworkers and leadership.

10. Understands and utilizes appropriate quality management techniques in support of the Medical Center and clinical laboratory goals.

11. Works collaboratively with the Lab Technical Services Manager to assure meaningful leader/employee rounding is completed according to span of control expectations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field from a four-year college or university required. Minimum of two (2) years clinical laboratory experience in a comparable laboratory environment required. Prior employee training or supervisory experience preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Certification required.
