The Director of Project Management for new acquisitions plays a critical role in ensuring seamless integration of R&D cross-functional activities, systems, and teams from acquired entities into BioMarin, in accordance with established integration plans and charters. This position leverages a sophisticated blend of project management proficiency and technical R&D expertise to align acquisition objectives with BioMarin's strategic priorities. Responsibilities include maintaining strict adherence to integration schedules and budgets and supporting effective asset transfer processes. Reporting to the Head of R&D Strategy Management and Business Operations, this position collaborates closely with R&D leadership as well as stakeholders from BioMarin Business Development, Product & Portfolio Strategy, Finance, Legal & IT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Integration: Partner with R&D leadership and New Asset Integration Teams to execute the strategic goals of acquisitions, ensuring R&D integration activities are aligned with organizational objectives and portfolio strategy.
  • Project Planning: Support the development of and maintain comprehensive integration plans and charters-including timelines, budgets, and resource allocations-to guide the integration process effectively. Apply change management to support the adoption of new systems and processes.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Coordinate with R&D, Business Development, Legal, Finance, and other departments to facilitate cross-functional integration activities including resourcing, contracts/vendors disposition, systems in accordance with the integration plan.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track progress against defined project goals and metrics, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure integration remains on schedule, within budget, and delivers anticipated value.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Project Management Expertise: Demonstrated experience managing complex projects using methodologies such as Agile; relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred.
  • Technical and Scientific Acumen: Comprehensive understanding of the R&D landscape and applicable scientific or engineering principles.
  • Due Diligence Experience: Prior experience with M&A initiatives preferred.
  • Communication and Leadership: Skilled in negotiating and engaging with diverse stakeholder groups, including technical teams, executive leadership, and external partners.
  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Strong capability in risk management, conflict resolution, and adaptability during dynamic M&A initiatives.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: High emotional intelligence with an aptitude for navigating cultural complexities and managing transitions.
Project Planning and Execution Oversight
  • Promote a culture characterized by teamwork, collaboration, and respect.
  • Encourage open communication and a positive, collaborative atmosphere across teams and departments.
  • Provide guidance for resolving or mitigating escalated issues and risks, and, when appropriate, lead executive-level communications regarding integration status, timing, risks, and issues.
  • Serve as an advocate for asset integration within both R&D and BioMarin, ensuring that contributions and interests are effectively represented and acknowledged throughout the organization.
  • Facilitate cross-functional alignment meetings with key stakeholders as necessary, and support team members by proactively engaging with stakeholders to maintain clear communication and alignment.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships through active engagement and collaboration and continuously monitor and address stakeholder feedback to ensure ongoing trust and support.
The salary range for this position is: $null to $1. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
