Head of Collections

The Head of Collections is responsible for the general management-including scholarship, documentation, acquisition, conservation, storage, transport, and access-for the NYU Art Collection. Steers the museum in its objective to make its collection paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and prints accessible to the widest possible audience for use in research, teaching, exhibitions, and programs. As a senior member of the Grey staff, the Head of Collections supervises collection interns and works collaboratively with colleagues to support the museum and contribute to its educational and research mission. Works closely with museum leadership and exhibitions staff to oversee the safe transport and appropriate display of Collection works, including those on loan to other institutions. Oversee collections-related museum projects.

This is a two-year fixed term position.

Required Education:
Master's Degree in Art History or Museum Studies

Preferred Education:
Doctoral Degree in Art History, preferably with specialization in the 20th Century and beyond.

Required Experience:
5+ years experience in collections management in a fine arts institution.

Preferred Experience:
5+ years Curatorial experience

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of preservation, conservation, and preventive conservation issues as they relate to fine arts collections. Ability to perform and write advanced scholarship in art history. Experience creating and maintaining artwork databases for collections management. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work collegially within and across organizations; great attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to manage time and tasks and complete projects in a timely manner. Flexibility and the capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $85,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
