We're looking for part-time Engineering Interns to join our team beginning in Summer 2026! This role is fully on-site in Nashville, TN, and housing is not provided. For students who are interested, the internship may be extended throughout the school year.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides technical support for Engineers in design and development of Medical Device product solutions. These product solutions may be wearables, mechanical and/or electro-mechanically based. Duties include creating component, product and process documentation, performing prototype builds, performing testing and participating in process qualification activities. Works under general supervision of Engineering Manager or Senior Engineer on multiple assignments of small scope and complexity. Typically, a part-time position suited for students enrolled in a University Engineering Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

* Follow Employee guidelines and Quality System Regulations as defined by Nissha Medical Technologies practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that customer requirements and industry standards and / or regulations are met.

* Assists in development of product specifications derived from customer requirements

* Conceptualize, prototype and test new product solutions that are capable of meeting customer requirements

* Perform engineering analysis and test methods and generate technical reports

* Perform detailed design of product solutions including CAD modeling, Design for Manufacturability and Assembly, Material Selection, and Drawing Specifications.

* Assist in development of assembly processes and procedures including initial Manufacturing Assembly Instructions and Process Development

* Research and develop custom manufacturing processes as required

* Support and participate in the risk management process required by the medical device industry

* Assists in coordination, evaluation and execution of project engineering activities.

* Participates on various project teams and in team meetings as required.

* Abide by all safety and security rules set forth by the company and regulatory agencies.

* Regular attendance is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications & Experience

* Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week

* Experience with SolidWorks (preferred)

* Experience with common hand and shop tools (preferred)

Education

* Currently enrolled in an accredited University Engineering Program.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Ability to perform all assigned tasks, work independently and complete work on schedule.

* Follow directions while displaying cooperative and positive behavior with co-workers.

* Basic understanding and ability to read prints and schematics.

* Technical writing skills.

* Working knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).

* Strong problem-solving skills and efficient management of time and resources.

* Ability to use and understand general test equipment including volt meters, torque wrenches, force gages, tensile testers etc. (preferred)

Physical Requirements This position requires the physical ability to:

* Frequently remain in a sitting position for long periods of time.

* Occasionally move between buildings and offices (campus environment).

* Frequently operate a computer and other office equipment.

* Constantly and successfully communicate with employees, managers, and members of the public, in person and on the phone, regarding sensitive matters.

* Occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds.

* Perform repetitive tasks using wrists, hands and fingers

* Occasionally operate processing equipment like hand tools, power equipment, assembly equipment and more

* Occasionally operate powered test equipment like tensile and compression testers, hipot testers, and more

Some overtime may be required depending on project timeline.

Special Work Conditions

* This position is exposed to quiet office noise level except when required to go into the lab and machine shop areas where there is exposure to loud machine noise.

* May be exposed to inclement weather when moving between buildings on site.

* Requires work in a Clean Room or Laboratory environment which may have all the hazards associated with an experimental R&D laboratory. Use of PPE in this environment is required. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

* On occasions this job may require product sample evaluations be used in a preclinical laboratory environment. This testing may include animal or human tissue testing. This testing may also include in-vivo lab evaluations. Participation in these evaluations is expected.

Pay Range: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
