Job Description

Job Summary

The Fiber Engineer supports the Brightspeed Enhanced Communities (BEC) Team by developing, reviewing, and maintaining high-quality geospatial and engineering designs for private property fiber network builds. This role ensures all GIS data, redlines, and as-built documentation are accurate, current, and compliant with company standards. The Fiber Engineer collaborates with vendors, field teams, and operations to validate and integrate fiber network designs into corporate GIS systems, supporting efficient and accurate fiber deployment.

Key Responsibilities

* Create and maintain fiber network and conduit designs using GIS/CAD tools such as IQGeo, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.

* Translate survey data and engineering inputs into construction-ready drawings and documentation.

* Apply design standards to ensure constructability, safety, and compliance with company requirements.

* Review and process construction redlines to generate accurate as-built records.

* Validate design-to-build conformance and ensure field updates are captured and recorded promptly.

* Serve as the primary technical interface for vendors submitting fiber design packages.

* Conduct QA/QC reviews of vendor-provided designs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.

* Identify and resolve discrepancies in design submissions and coordinate acceptance into internal GIS systems.

* Maintain centralized, accurate records of all network assets and design versions.

* Support data governance efforts by reconciling survey, design, and construction data to ensure accuracy.

* Collaborate with Site Survey Engineers, Construction Managers, and Operations teams to confirm build feasibility and accuracy.

* Provide design and GIS expertise during project planning, execution, and closeout.

* May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, GIS, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

* Minimum 3 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber network design, or utility GIS record management.

* Proficiency in geospatial and design software such as IQGeo, AutoCAD, or ArcGIS.

Skills & Competencies

* Strong knowledge of fiber network architecture, OSP/ISP design standards, and as-built documentation processes.

* Proven experience performing QA/QC on vendor or subcontractor design submittals.

* Familiarity with address management and network asset data integrity.

* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data management skills.

* Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and version control.

* Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience designing fiber networks for multi-dwelling units (MDUs) or private property developments.

* Understanding of aerial and underground OSP construction practices.

* Experience working within large-scale design-build or rapid deployment environments.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

* Primarily office-based role requiring frequent use of computers and GIS/design software.

* Occasional field visits may be required to validate design accuracy or assess site conditions.

* May involve sitting for extended periods and working under tight deadlines.

* Minimal travel required (up to 10%), depending on project needs.
