The CAD Drafting Intern - Facility Design provides drafting and technical support for Duncan Aviation's Engineering and Facilities teams. This position is responsible for creating, revising, and maintaining detailed CAD drawings of facility layouts, hangars, maintenance shops, equipment installations, and utility systems. The CAD Drafter ensures all drawings and documentation reflect accurate as-built conditions, comply with company standards, and support safe, efficient aviation maintenance operations. The role works closely with engineers, project managers, maintenance teams, and contractors to bring facility improvement projects from concept to completion.



Essential Job Functions

1. Creates and updates 2D and 3D CAD drawings for hangars, back shops, office spaces, and facility infrastructure.

2. Works from sketches, field measurements, and engineer-provided information to develop accurate floor plans, equipment layouts, and utility routing.

3. Assists in design and documentation for new construction, remodels, and equipment installations to support maintenance, avionics, and support operations.

4. Ensures all drawings are organized, archived, and version-controlled in accordance with company standards.

5. Updates facility "as-built" drawings following project completion or equipment relocation.

6. Coordinates with engineering, facilities, and safety teams to ensure designs meet operational, regulatory, and safety requirements.

7. Collaborates with outside contractors and vendors to exchange and verify technical drawing information.

8. Provides visual documentation and technical support for project planning, presentations, and permits.

9. Performs other duties as assigned to support Engineering and Facilities operations.

  • Licenses/Certificates: N/A
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance is required
  • Physical: Ability to read detailed drawings; repetitive motion; tolerates sitting for extended periods; occasional site visits for measurements and verification.
  • Environmental: Office and hangar/shop environment



Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be currently enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year college with focus on Engineering, Architecture or CAD
  • Technical certificate in CAD Technology, Drafting, Architecture, or Engineering Design preferred
  • Minimum one year of CAD drafting experience; experience with AutoCAD or similar software required
  • Experience with facility, architectural, or mechanical drafting in an aviation or industrial environment preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
  • Strong attention to detail, spatial accuracy, and file organization
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
