Student Mentorship and Initiatives Coordinator

Position Overview: The Student Mentorship and Initiatives Coordinator supports the retention, engagement, and holistic development of students by designing and implementing programs that promote belonging, academic achievement, and persistence to graduation. The Coordinator plays a key role in creating initiatives that meet the needs of underrepresented student populations, fosters collaboration with academic departments to deliver student success sessions, and provides individualized support to address students' immediate needs. This individual serves as the primary staff contact for the Chatman Center, a physical space and resource hub designed to provide support and foster a sense of community for students from all cultures and backgrounds.

Essential Duties:


  • Program Development and Coordination

    • Develop, implement, and assess programs and initiatives that support the success and sense of belonging of diverse student populations.
    • Serve as the main staff contact for the Chatman Center, a physical space and resource hub on campus.
    • Coordinate workshops, events, and outreach efforts focused on academic skill-building, transition support, and student engagement.
    • Serve as the primary advisor to our identity-based student clubs and organizations.
    • Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Student Success, Residence Life, Academic Advising) to enhance inclusive student support services.
    • Manage the budget and resources allocated to the Chatman Center to ensure effective and equitable use of funds.


  • Academic Success Partnerships

    • Work in partnership with academic departments to design and facilitate success sessions on topics such as study skills, time management, and navigating the curriculum.
    • Identify trends in student performance and partner with faculty to address academic challenges proactively.
    • Utilize Navigate 365 and other campus systems to identify students who may be at risk and coordinate timely outreach and follow-up.
    • Collaborate with campus partners to enhance existing support structures and create new pathways for student connection and academic progress.


  • Student Support and Case Management

    • Meet with students individually or in small groups to assess needs and connect them with appropriate campus resources.
    • Provide responsive support for students experiencing academic, financial, or personal barriers impacting their success.
    • Maintain accurate records of student interactions and outreach efforts for ongoing assessment.
    • Design and oversee a mentorship program connecting students with peer and professional mentors to foster engagement, academic success, and career readiness.


  • Assessment and Reporting

    • Collect and analyze data related to student participation, satisfaction, and outcomes.
    • Contribute to regular reports on program effectiveness and recommendations for continuous improvement.


  • Campus and Community Engagement

    • Serve as a visible and approachable resource for students from all backgrounds.
    • Promote an inclusive and supportive campus environment through outreach and advocacy.
    • Serves as a member of our Orientation team and assists with planning events to help new students and families feel connected and prepared for campus life.
    • Participate in campus committees and initiatives related to student success.




Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, student affairs, social sciences, or related field: Required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with college students in a higher education setting: Required
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting diverse student populations: Required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills: Required
  • Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field: Preferred
  • Experience developing and assessing student programs or retention initiatives: Preferred
  • Familiarity with early alert systems and student success data platforms: Preferred
