The Department of Urology provides the highest quality urologic care, research, and education. The Department provides general urologic and subspecialty care in urology oncology, infertility and andrology, women's pelvic medicine and voiding dysfunction, urinary stone disease and endourology, reconstructive urology and urologic trauma and pediatric urology. The urology clinical program consists of over 20 faculty members, 5 fellows and 15 residents, 9 APPs and conducts ambulatory outpatient care in 7 clinical sites.

The Department of Urology is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our team and support the inpatient urology service. This role will focus on discharge planning, inpatient and emergency department consultations, and the management of urology inpatients in collaboration with the resident and attending teams. In addition to inpatient responsibilities, the NP will provide ambulatory support by evaluating acute urologic concerns-particularly post-operative and post-discharge patients-to improve access and continuity of care. Responsibilities may evolve over time based on the needs and priorities of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • Current Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification (AGACNP or ACNP).

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Minimum two (2) relevant inpatient experience as a nurse practitioner required. **NP experience must include prior experience in urology.

  • Knowledge of common urologic problems and treatments.

  • Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.

  • Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information.

  • Ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.

  • Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians in-charge, laboratory personnel, and members of the health care team.

  • Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.

  • Knowledge necessary for instructing housestaff, medical students, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours with the ability to change schedule on short notice. May require occasional evening and weekend hours beyond the normal workday. Must be willing to be flexible regarding work site within San Diego County.

  • Position will float between Hillcrest, La Jolla and East Campus Medical Centers.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Current University of California NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $80.31 - $112.38

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
