The BMC Healthcare Fellowship is an immersive, paid 12-week workforce development program designed to prepare participants for entry-level administrative roles within the healthcare system. Fellows participate in an in-person training hosted by the YMCA's Education and Training Center, followed by an introduction to Boston Medical Center through orientation and onboarding activities.

The program equips Fellows with the skills and knowledge to pursue certification as a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and transition into healthcare administrative positions at BMC. Fellows will complete coursework in medical office operations, Microsoft Office Suite, career readiness, and BMC-specific administrative systems and workflows. The final two weeks of the fellowship take place on-site at BMC, where participants will engage with hospital teams, learn institutional processes, and prepare to apply to roles in the health system.

Pay Rate: $4,500 for 12 weeks ($15/hr)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Participate in classroom and hands-on training focused on medical administrative and office support skills.

  • Learn and apply core competencies in scheduling, patient registration, electronic health records, and communication.

  • Engage in Microsoft Office and data management training, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and customer service skills throughout all aspects of the fellowship.

  • Participate in BMC orientation, shadowing, and department-based activities during the final two weeks of the program.

  • Successfully complete all coursework and program requirements in preparation for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Interest in pursuing a career in healthcare administration.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professionalism in a healthcare environment.

  • Commitment to attendance, participation, and completion of all program components.

  • Basic computer literacy required; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning new systems and procedures.

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
