General Information:

The Office of Financial Reporting seeks a Data Control Specialist to join us in supporting the University's mission by producing reliable, timely financial information and transactions. We are a customer-service oriented office with a strong commitment to quality, integrity, and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Data entry and analysis; enter detailed accounting transaction data into the PeopleSoft Finance system utilizing documentation submitted by various departments across the JMU community, including accounting entries via Agency Transaction Vouchers (ATVs), bulk deposit data from daily Higher One uploads prepared by the University Business Office, and bank deposits/funds transfers to record the University's banking activity.
- Review data entry utilizing query, Excel, and PeopleSoft reporting functionality to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Enter budget journals for grant funds.
- Receive and distribute departmental mail.
- Provide customer service to on-campus departments by monitoring the Financial Reporting departmental inbox regarding general inquiries, accounting entry support, error correction, etc.
- Assist the Accountant and Reports Accountant with daily processes as needed. Also provide assistance as-needed to others in the Financial Reporting department, and potentially other areas of Finance. Examples of such tasks include (but may not be limited to) the following:
- Scanning documents for electronic indexing, other general filing tasks
- Review and update departmental procedures
- Prepares special projects as assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Financial Reporting

Qualifications:

- General working knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Ability to work independently with minor supervision, as well as work effectively with other employees within the department and the university.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure as necessary to meet deadlines, etc.
- Computer experience required, with a focus in Excel or other spreadsheets beneficial.
