Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Associate II for the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Health at the New Jersey Medical School.

This Research Associate II position focuses on studying reproductive function during the progression of systemic lupus erythematosus ( SLE). This study will investigate reproductive outcomes, estrous cyclicity, endogenous hypothalamicpituitary-ovarian ( HPO) axis activity, ovarian responsiveness to gonadotropins, and ovarian follicle dynamics in female SLE-prone NZBWF1 mice, both prior to and after the onset of autoimmunity. Specific assessments will include monitoring the estrous cycle, measuring luteinizing hormone surge, and evaluating ovarian function in SLE females.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Maintain and manage mouse colonies, including breeding, tissue collection, and record-keeping.
  • Perform hormone analyses (17-estradiol, follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH], and anti-Mullerian hormone [AMH]) using ELISA kits.
  • Carry out immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and confocal microscopy imaging.
  • Isolate RNA from oocytes and somatic cells.
  • Perform superovulation testing.
  • Conduct tissue sectioning (cryostat and paraffin embedding) and histological staining.
  • Perform molecular assays, including western blotting, PCR, and qPCR.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • PhD or Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Candidate must be highly motivated, have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with departments faculty, students and residents.
  • Sound knowledge of the IRB process, research methodology, statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, literature searches and use of statistical software such as SPSS, SAS.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert forced up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in a research laboratory setting with exposure to biological samples and laboratory animals. The role requires adherence to safety, biosafety, and animal care protocols.
