We are seeking a skilled Staff Cloud Platform Engineer to join our team and drive cost optimization across our cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in cloud platforms and financial operations (FinOps) to analyze usage, implement cost-saving strategies, and enhance visibility into cloud expenses. Collaborating with development teams, finance, and IT leadership, you will play a critical role in ensuring efficient resource utilization, accurate forecasting, and actionable financial reporting. Roles & Responsibilities:
- Analyze cloud usage and cost data to identify savings opportunities.
- Leverage a deep understanding of cloud platforms and/or application architecture to identify and implement cost savings opportunities (reserved instances, savings plans and other savings mechanisms)
- Implement rightsizing strategies, eliminate unused resources, and create cost control policies.
- Lead technical discussions with development teams and software architects to identify cost optimization opportunities in their application workloads.
- Monitor cost metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for cloud FinOps, including utilization, cost savings activities, and tracking cost variance to budget.
- Manage the cloud forecasting process and help the organization improve accuracy for future cloud expenses.
- Provide visibility into cloud expenses across business units and departments and ensure that costs are shown back to the appropriate areas.
- Maintain cost allocation strategies including tagging, allocating new workloads and updating financial tooling.
- Develop financial reports and dashboards to monitor cloud usage, track spending and perform trend analysis.
- Implement automation tools to track and report cloud usage and costs.
- Use Cloud FinOps principles and tools to automate the financial management of cloud resources and provide real-time cost analysis.
- Set up and manage automated alerting for unexpected cost spikes and implement processes to promptly resolve issues before significant costs are incurred.
- Work with finance and IT leadership teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Software Engineering, or DevOps.
- 2+ years of experience in a FinOps or cost optimization role.
- Deep technical expertise with Azure and/or AWS services (Azure preferred, AWS acceptable)
- Strong understanding of cloud pricing models, billing data, and cost drivers.
- Experience using FinOps tools (Ternary preferred; Cloudability, CloudHealth, or CloudZero acceptable).
- Proven ability to translate technical and financial insights into actionable recommendations.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong analytical skills with experience in SQL, Excel, or data visualization platforms.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent experience preferred.
- Skilled in automation/scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Terraform) and integrating cost optimization into pipelines.
