Position Summary
The Program Specialist is responsible for coordinating the Medical Student Education Pipeline Programs ( MSEP) which include the Career Advising Program, the Family Medicine Summer Research Program, the Family Medicine Interest Group, and elective planning. This position works in collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine's Director for Medical Student Education, with a great deal of autonomy for program coordination and decision making. The Program Specialist will provide integrated management and program development services to support the educational and scholarly missions of the UNC Department of Family Medicine. The Program Specialist role will provide a key role in strengthening the educational partnerships, relationships, and support of departments' education faculty. The position will function as a critical member of a highly integrated and interdisciplinary team and work closely with the respective units. The responsibilities include (1) project management: development, planning, and implementation of programs; (2) administrative and operational coordination; (3) data management and reporting; (4) program evaluation and reporting; and (5) budgeting and financial reporting.

In addition to leading the MSEP programming, this position will also serve as the primary program coordinator for the nationally recognized UNC Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship, the Federal Work-Study Program, and the National RISHI Organization's Healer's Art Course.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation is essential.
  • Necessary requirements include organizational skills, budget management skills, attention to detail, ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion.
  • Candidates are expected to maintain effective working relationships with all peers, program-related personnel, and faculty, demonstrating initiative, and remaining calm under pressure.
  • The ability to work occasional evenings is required.
