Position Summary

The Assistant Building Maintenance Manger reports to the Building Maintenance Manager for Event Services. This position is responsible for all painting and floor care in the Carolina Union facility as well as the hiring, training, and supervision of a student painting and floor care team. This position also performs minor repairs including those related to the following: electrical, carpentry, furnishing, carpet, plumbing, locks, and other building hardware.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and ensure accuracy in documentation and data.
  • Comply with established control systems and rules.
  • Determine objectives, set priorities, and delegate work appropriately.
  • Ability to write and speak effectively, using conventions proper to the situation.
  • Exhibit proficiency in using modern communication technologies.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience in a university setting.
  • Valid NC Driver's license with good driving record.
  • Experience with managing student employees in an environment committed to student learning.
