Metallurgist - Technology

Primary Responsibilities for the Metallurgist - Technology:

• Provides a range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company and division goals.
• Demonstrates the ability to make disposition of referred, non-conforming and off-standard material, including but not limited to RMRs and customer claims.
• Applies statistical methods to solve problems and design experiments.
• Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required for the Metallurgist - Technology:

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field required.
• 2 to 4 years relevant experience required.
• Understands the key business drivers; uses this knowledge in own work. Expands fundamental knowledge in own function and broadens skills.
• Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team. Works with others to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills within own function. May be accountable for subsets for project deliverables. Has no formal role in managing projects.
• Aware of costs and assists in controlling costs related to own work.
• Working knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices.
• Working knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment.
• Knowledge of statistical methods, six sigma and/or BPI practices.
• Solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.
• Responds to non-standard requests from customers; investigates with assistance from others as needed.
• Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
• Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to apply statistical methods in decision making.
• Ability to function as an individual contributor with moderate supervision.
• Ability to serve as a mentor to internal resources in narrow functional areas as requested.
• Ability to provide support and guidance to peers and manager in key projects and opportunities with minimal assistance.
