The Sustainability team is searching for ambitious personnel to join their team. You would be instrumental in achieving Smithfield's goal to become the #1 consumer packaged goods company in the world!

The Associate Sustainability Specialist supports the Sustainability team in efforts and initiatives related to the ISO14001 EMS, customer audits and surveys requests, supplier programs, metrics and data collection, customer requests and internal and external sustainability communications. Coordinates with Communications, Legal, Operations, Safety, Human Resources and other Departments as needed to address program requirements and support staff in addressing Department responsibilities and initiatives.

Core Responsibilities
  • Tracks company-wide sustainability metrics surveys and data for completeness and accuracy.

  • Acts as a lead for sustainability pillars (1-3), works directly with the pillar SME, and helps compile annual metrics.

  • Coordinates responses to customer sustainability surveys and information requests.

  • Supports planning and organization of annual social compliance audits.

  • Partners with regional Environmental Director to provide operational support for our sustainability program across manufacturing facilities.

  • Provides support as needed for environmental projects, new technology review, internal and external communications materials and interactions with other company departments, government and non-government organizations.

  • Monitors trends in environmental science, renewable resources, sustainable work processes.

  • Conducts research and analysis and identify opportunities for new programs as well as improvements in current programs.

  • Helps develop sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies in collaboration with other sustainability team members.

  • Other potential functions as needed:

    • Conduct data analysis with Power BI.

    • Business lead for sustainability projects company wide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental Studies, Meat Science, Agriculture, or related field, required.

  • Prior experience with sustainability programs and initiatives, preferred.

  • Excellent computer skills related to data management and website administration.

  • High degree of accuracy, detail orientation and organizational skills.

  • Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • May be required to travel up to 15% of the time.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
