Staff Engineer, Component
About the Role
We are seeking a Component Engineer to lead the investigation, qualification, and approval of electronic devices for use in demanding environments, including space. This role will partner closely with design teams and customer engineering representatives to ensure part suitability, radiation resistance, lifecycle status, and compliance with customer requirements. The Component Engineer will be the primary technical authority for component-related issues, driving solutions and delivering high-quality documentation to support final part approvals.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for electronics component issues, supporting both internal teams and external customers.
Lead and resolve component-related issues, including:
Act as the customer/vendor interface for questions related to EEE Bills of Material (BOMs).
Create, review, and modify drawings and BOMs with full documentation of changes.
Disposition non-conforming hardware as required.
Perform and support failure investigations and troubleshooting of electronic components under varied environmental conditions.
Generate component verification data packages, including analyses and test reports.
Develop and manage Part Management Compliance Plans (PMCP) to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
Conduct component-specific analyses, such as evaluating lead finishes for tin whiskering risks.
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in a Component Engineering role.
Detail-oriented, with initiative to drive process improvements.
Knowledge of part lifecycle management tools (e.g., Silicon Expert, IHS).
Familiarity with product lifecycle considerations and component reliability issues.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey technical concepts.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
Leadership skills to effectively interface with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment
Combination of office and manufacturing/machine shop settings.
Exposure to typical shop conditions including fluids, fumes, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.
Standard office equipment usage (computers, phones, printers, etc.) and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required in shop environments.
Temperature may vary depending on external conditions and machining processes.
Physical Requirements
Ability to talk, hear, and see clearly.
Frequent use of hands/arms for handling, reaching, and operating tools or instruments.
Regular standing (7-8 hours daily), walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and balancing.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move items up to 50 lbs.
Skilled use of measuring instruments, hand tools, and power tools.
This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.
Pay Range: $137,000 to 150,000
