Summary:

Nisga'a Tek is looking for a Speech Writer. The Speech Writer will provide professional writing services in direct support of the Commanding General (CG) and staff of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE). This position requires the ability to craft impactful speeches, talking points, and related communication materials tailored to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with Army Medicine's mission and values.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Research, draft, and deliver speeches, talking points, and presentations for the MEDCoE Commanding General and senior leaders.
  • Attend coordination meetings, document minutes, and collaborate with staff to define content, structure, and tone for speeches.
  • Develop outlines, slides, and drafts for review, ensuring speeches are clear, persuasive, and audience-appropriate.
  • Write informational papers, weekly updates, and issue briefs to support MEDCoE and TRADOC missions.
  • Conduct background research, gather data, and integrate relevant statistics, history, and facts to strengthen messages.
  • Prepare speeches in suitable formats for cue cards and teleprompters.
  • Support rehearsals with senior leaders, providing feedback, tips, and delivery guidance.
  • Revise and edit drafts according to feedback, ensuring final versions are error-free and ready on time.
  • Provide monthly progress/status reports to Program Manager and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills with the ability to capture and reflect the voice of senior leaders.
  • Strong grasp of grammar, style, and Army/DoD writing standards (e.g., Army.mil Style Guide, AP Stylebook).
  • Ability to create conversational, clear, and impactful speeches for various occasions (ceremonies, community events, professional development).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and online research tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable briefing and collaborating with senior military and civilian leaders.
  • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Public Relations, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in public affairs, communications, or speech writing.
  • Familiarity with military culture, history, and organizational structure; Army Medical background preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a government background investigation (NACI).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting military senior leaders in speech writing or public affairs.
  • Knowledge of MEDCoE and TRADOC missions, functions, and core competencies.
  • Background in Army medical history and operations.
