Reporting directly to the Dean in the College of Information Science, the Dean's Senior Advisor and Strategist will administer highly-complex projects relevant to special initiatives, accreditation reviews, ongoing improvement projects, as well as the development of the college's strategic plan. By engaging in independent judgment and while adhering to a very high level of discretion, the advisor will be a key member of the strategic administrative staff to support both day-to-day activities conducted by the dean as well as executing special projects and strategic initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities |
Strategic Planning and Institutional Initiatives
- Working with the Dean, lead the design and execution of the college-wide strategic planning process in alignment with the University's strategic plan. Develop and manage specific steps, including focus groups with faculty, staff, and students; meetings with on/off-campus stakeholders; and discussions with alumni to ensure broad input and engagement. Translate findings into actionable strategies that advance the college's long-term goals.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Dean and the college's faculty and staff councils. Review, analyze, and advise on council recommendations related to work climate, organizational culture, and job safety. Provide strategic recommendations to the Dean regarding necessary changes to policies and practices based on council feedback and institutional priorities.
- Provide research-based analysis and create reports to share knowledge and gain buy-in and support of key program initiatives. Provide research-based analysis to support initiatives such as accreditation self-studies, academic program reviews, disciplinary association surveys, and special reporting requests from the Provost or President. Highlight trends, issues, and challenges while framing findings in ways that build understanding, engagement, and buy-in from stakeholders.
- Responsible for acting as the organizational spokesperson/subject matter expert to convey the University's strategic plans and goals to stakeholders.
- Track and report metrics related to action items and projects.
Strategic Advising for the Dean
- Oversee and prioritize complex scheduling for the Dean, often involving large groups and cross-college stakeholders. Ensure calendar planning reflects institutional priorities, strategic initiatives, and optimal use of executive time.
- Manage sensitive documents for the Dean, and create highly specialized documents with an extremely high degree of detail (e.g., candidate agendas, meeting agendas, special announcements or communiques for staff, faculty and others).
- Aid the Dean in responding to requests, needs, and inquiries from other deans.
- Exercise extreme discretion and independent judgment with in matters of significance.
- Troubleshoot issues or requests that arise throughout the day that may or may not require the Dean's attention, serving as a conduit for the Dean on matters such as document signatures, academic operations, preparing for various meetings, and other types of executive support.
Facilities Planning, Climate and Environmental Strategy
- Lead in the creation and distribution of climate surveys as needed.
- Serve as liaison between the Dean, facilities management, staff members, and campus collaborators to initiate plans for newly acquired spaces and shared spaces with other units and stakeholders around campus.
- Execute the Dean's vision for space management, furnishings, and office assignments, creating an inspiring and impressive environment amid some of the challenges presented by our current locations.
- Create and maintain emergency response plans for all college spaces.
- Interface with others working on space-adjacent matters (e.g., business team with inventory lists, purchasing, and keys, building manager role assignments, involvement in the campus space committee).
- Write proposals (e.g., foundation small grants, university-level 'calls' for proposals) that can support safety improvements, medical equipment, and the funding of new instructional spaces, labs, etc.

- Skilled in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
- Ability to manage and build collaborative teams with other staff members.
- Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
- Ability to create highly-detailed documents that are of high quality.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill information and results into simple concepts and actions for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, engage in critical thinking, and solve practical problems.
- Ability to inspire and influence others with strong communication skills and a supportive conflict management style.
- High level of knowledge of university processes and norms in higher education.
- Proven knowledge of executive level administrative principles and practices.
- Proven ability to exercise discretion in working with highly confidential and sensitive matters.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of people at all levels of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
