If you are drawn to opportunities that combine creative leadership, design thinking, and strategic collaboration, this position is for you. As Creative Principal, you will lead a team of graphic designers and visual media professionals within HDR's architecture marketing studio. You'll guide the art direction of creative work that supports pursuits, brand expression, and storytelling across the architecture practice.

In this role, you'll collaborate with architects, planners, strategists, marketers and other experts to shape how ideas are communicated visually. You will oversee everything from pursuit graphics and branded collateral to presentations, digital media, and other creative outputs. Your leadership will help ensure that visuals produced within the Architecture Marketing Studio (AMS) are clear, compelling, and aligned with our values and aspirations.

Responsibilities

Creative Leadership & Vision

*Lead and manage a team of 10+ visual and graphic designers, fostering a creative, collaborative, and innovative culture.

*Shape and execute a compelling vision for the creative studio in partnership with the Director of AMS and other key leaders.

*Inspire bold creativity and champion ideas that elevate our brand and design innovation.

*Spark ideation through dynamic brainstorming and transform ambitious concepts into impactful solutions.

Strategic Collaboration & Brand Stewardship

*Collaborate with communications and pursuits teams to align creative outputs with marketing strategies, pursuit goals, and brand standards.

*Partner with architectural leaders to translate client aspirations into inspiring creative briefs and visuals.

*Build a culture of co-creation through charrettes and feedback loops, ensuring alignment with design vision and client goals.

*Elevate and evolve HDR's visual brand standards, ensuring consistency and excellence across all communications.

Project Oversight & Execution

*Partner with the creative leads to set shared standards and expectations that elevate craft, foster accountability, and ensure alignment across all projects.

*Oversee the development of diverse visual materials, including digital graphics, infographics, branding assets, interactive media, presentations, and print collateral.

*Guide the creation of pursuit graphics and marketing materials that support business development and adhere to brand standards.

*Present design solutions for internal teams and clients, manage feedback, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.

Team Development

*Cultivate a world-class team, fostering collaboration, excellence, and continuous learning.

*Drive seamless workflows to deliver exceptional creative across print, digital, experiential, and environmental media.

*Serve as a mentor to creative studio team members and the broader AMS group, supporting professional growth.

Innovation & Market Awareness

*Anticipate future design trends and embrace emerging technologies and media.

*Introduce cutting-edge tools and techniques to redefine visual storytelling and engagement.

*Implement key growth initiatives aligned with annual and long-term planning for the architecture marketing studio.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, or equivalent, or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of design experience
  • Excellent sense of design principles, including color, layout, and ability to create visually solid messaging
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present and clearly articulate concepts and design decisions to creative teams and internal/external clients
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud & Microsoft Office
  • Ability to design within established standards and visual identity
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and excel in a fast-paced work environment
  • Desire to learn and grow, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude
  • A portfolio of relevant design work is required for consideration

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Chicago, IL and Denver, CO: $93,093.00 - $132,990.00 Los Angeles, CA: $97,325.00 - $139,035.00 Seattle, WA: $101,556.00 - $145,080.00; New York, NY: $105,788.00 - $151,125.00
