Plans, directs and supervises team members in the day to day operations within various departments of the store. Serves as the mentor and coach for all team members. Implements strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales while ensuring customer needs are met and service is quick and efficient. Maintains store appearance with a focus on prime shopping hours, product presentation and company standards.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Ensure successful vendor relationships and vendor accountability within the department.
    * Create a nightly plan to execute live load, using store trail, case counts, etc.
    * Accountable for live load being worked 100% each night.
    * Accountable for ensuring that all stocking standards are met during the third shift.
    * Accountable for ad being packed out every night.
    Accountable for productivity/speed of stocking.
    * Accountable for store conditions by store opening time.
    * Accountable for floor care vendor management and floor care brand standards when the overnight area leader is
    not available.
    * Partner with any third-party vendors completing work in the store overnight; check off their completed work
    when the overnight area leader is not available.
    * Ensure fresh load, dairy/frozen, and any peddles are unloaded and put away.
    * Open and close the gas station.
    * Open and close the store. Let team members and vendors in and out as needed during overnight hours.
  • Check e-mail, Meijer365, and task management several times daily for updates. Assign tasks to team members
    within the department. Follow up to ensure task completion.
    * Host daily huddles and ensure communication is cascaded down to all team members within their span of care.
    * Perform survival walk of the department and shift-to-shift handoff.
    * Communicate effectively with peer leadership for smooth handoff between shifts.
    * Review the previous week's financials, performance, labor, and other reporting and develop action plans as
    necessary to ensure success for all departments within their span of care.
    * Stay current with local market trends for departments within their span of care; stay apprised of Meijer
    marketing tactics and key items/seasons of focus for the department.
    * Accountable for all actions and activities involving the monitoring and control of shrink and financial business
    outcomes within assigned departments.
    * Review department inventory results and develop action plans, in partnership with leadership.
    * Accountable for Truly Human Service customer experience, including handling customer complaints and
    escalations.
    * Accountable for and champions DE&I program participation and behavior of team members within their span of
    care.
    * Responsible for overall performance management and accountability for the entire department, including but
    not limited to Empower conversations, coaching, and behavior management.
    * Participate in interviews, hiring, onboarding, observation, and coaching for department leads and team members
    within their span of care, in partnership with their area leader.
    * Serve as a certified trainer for team members in their span of care. Perform on-the-job/hands-on team member
    training and mentoring. Review and execute final sign-off on training and certifications for leads and team
    members within their span of care.
    * Review the training completion dashboard and period compliance for the department. Respond as necessary.
    * May serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for market programs, company pilots, and development/training
    programs.
    * Review Kronos attendance by 9 a.m. Review and act on Kronos incidents, including time off/shift swaps, missed
    shifts, and late punches/early departures.
    * Participate in writing department schedules accurately, on time, and in line with labor budgets and business
    needs, in partnership with their area leader.
    * Follow the store-to-corporate communication model to call in tickets, submit work orders, or submit Helix
    requests when necessary. Follow up on these requests and escalate as needed to ensure timely resolution.
    * Trained and certified as duty manager/store director in charge (SDIC). See the DUTY sheet for more information.
    * Complete all training and any required certifications on time.
    * Comply with the Meijer Code of Ethics and all Meijer policies and procedures
  • Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and team members.
  • Responsible for staffing, selection and hiring to achieve staffing needs.
  • Promotes succession planning by providing career paths, identifying development needs for the team members, and being involved with and accountable for promotion decisions.
  • Documents and applies disciplinary actions and makes recommendations concerning discharge.
  • Responsible for P&L, achieving sales and maintaining shrink for the department.
  • Models exceptional, fast and friendly customer service.
  • Communicates the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
  • Mentors and coaches the team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the area is maintained to Meijer standards.
  • Ensures the team is thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and have completed all required training.
  • Spends majority of time within the store communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered.
  • Communicates the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
  • Promotes a safe work environment.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of related retail experience.
  • One year of management experience.
  • Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce and deli; also customer service and product flow experience is helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions. Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders.
  • Successful completion of all required certifications.

The pay range for this position is listed below.

$18.00 - $26.50

This pay range represents the minimum and maximum base pay for the position, which is determined by factors such as market data, the qualifications required, the level of responsibilities associated with the role and other roles at this same level. Your specific pay rate within this range will be based on your experience, qualifications, and skills compared to the internal team you'll be joining.
