Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) teaches New Employee Orientation (NEO) educational sessions to incoming Maricopa County Correctional Health Services (CHS) clinical staff. The primary work location for this position is in the clinics within the jail setting to provide on-demand training sessions as coordinated by Nurse Managers. CNEs also train Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to administer methadone, while following strict Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations for handling and documenting controlled substances.

We Require

  • One year of experience in clinical precepting/training or health care delivery

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing

  • A valid, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing (or issued by another state recognized by the Arizona Board of Nursing as a multi-compact license state), nursing license

  • Experience as a Registered Nurse in an ambulatory, medical/surgical, ER/Urgent Care, or behavioral health setting

Job Contributions

  • Provides competency-based training and testing to all clinical and mental health staff inboth classroom and clinical settings

  • Provides education, professional development, and preceptorship to CHS staff, including, but not limited to, National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Standards, CHS Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

  • Provides didactic training, education, and support to clinical nurse preceptors and new clinical staff; including precepting new employees in clinic locations within the jail setting

  • Closey coordinates with Nurse Managers weekly to identify staff in need of additional instruction, determine their clinical education needs, provide training to address those needs, and documents all training provided

  • Assesses and communicates clinical training needs based on quality indicators, staff, and clinical leaders' input

  • Develops and maintains effective training materials, assessments, and lesson plans with measurable objectives

  • Researches, reviews, and implements evidence-based practices into curriculums, training, and skills competency evaluations in both the classroom and clinical settings

  • Serves as an educational resource and contributes to continuous process improvement initiatives

  • Supports patient care and SOP compliance with regularly scheduled clinic rotations in collaboration with the Nurse Manager(s)

  • Participates annually in Professional Clinical Training to keep abreast of best practices in nursing skills and patient care

  • Facilitates professional development using best instructional practices and supports the professional development of other educators on the team

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout their shift while accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks

  • Position primarily works during the day, but could include night shift work

  • Ability to travel or float to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius

  • Must be able to respond to emergencies

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access

  • Must maintain CPR certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Trainer certification, or ability to become certified during orientation training and maintain certification throughout employment

  • Must obtain Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) certification within one year of employment
