As an Advanced Manufacturing Software/Controls Engineer II, your primary focus would be to research, develop, and support the execution of NPD & CI engineering projects for Milwaukee Tool. The Advanced Manufacturing Software/Controls Engineer II position will report directly to the Advanced Manufacturing Manager. You will be utilizing your engineering, software and controls skills to design, build or support existing and new to world manufacturing equipment for power tools.

Your Role in Our Team:

As an Advanced Manufacturing Software/Controls Engineer II

  • Support the manufacturing of internally built automation equipment. Programming, electrical/controls design, and documentation. Design, build, commissioning and validation of machines and fixtures.

  • Following global standards

  • Research and aid in the development of manufacturing processes - machine design and controls solutions to enhance our global operations.

  • Develop and participate in engineering projects for advanced engineering. This role will provide engineering feasibility and support on high complexity projects.

  • Assist with machine assembly, testing, and debug, including FAT/SAT, field-testing and commissioning.

  • This job will also support other engineers in designing and completing their projects as well.

  • Integrating robotics, vision and/or automation into new and existing equipment.

  • Provide concise engineering project updates to project leaders and the global engineering teams through PowerPoint and graphical tools. Data must be presented in a manner that facilitates effective decisions.

  • Occasionally serve as a technical resource to troubleshoot problems with global manufacturing teams and suppliers in areas of expertise.

  • Assist with preparation of quotations and proposals for new projects.

  • Perform basic cost analysis to justify automation.

  • Regularly visit the global manufacturing cells/suppliers to maintain open lines of communication with the cell/suppliers and provide opportunity/troubleshooting analysis as required.

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

The TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related work experience.

  • 2-3 years of machine control/automation design and programming experience, preferably on custom machines

  • LabVIEW or text-based language experience

  • Software source control experience

  • Experience creating appropriate manufacturing documentation (e.g., theory of operation, wiring schematics, panel layouts, user manuals)

  • Posses an understanding of multiple manufacturing and assembly processes and possible design/manufacturing hurdles that must be overcome to manufacture product.

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • Basic understanding of quality and lean methodologies

  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects.

  • Industrial automation experience

  • PLC programming experience

  • Experience with selection, configuration, and programming of HMI's

  • Experience with a wide variety of automation components (e.g., robots, actuators, sensors, vision systems, material handling)

  • Database experience and proficiency

  • CAD skills are a significant advantage but not required.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on attitude.

  • High interest in tools of the construction trades.

  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically as required (up to 15% travel).

Travel Requirements:

  • 10-20% (includes domestic and international travel for machine and/or concept evaluations)
