A day in the life of a Vice President of Business Operations:
The Vice President of Business Operations is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and responsible for overseeing the financial, accounting, and information technology functions of the organization. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial data, maintaining robust internal controls, and providing strategic insights that support the organization's revenue-generating business units. A significant part of this role involves leveraging advanced skills to analyze complex data, model scenarios, and generate critical reports. Furthermore, the VP will ensure strict adherence to government contracting regulations (e.g., DCAA, FAR, CAS), overseeing compliance and audit readiness. This leader will be instrumental in implementing best practices across these functions, streamlining processes, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance overall organizational effectiveness and support the achievement of strategic business objectives.

You have a proven track record of successfully managing comprehensive operations, possess exceptional proficiency in analyzing and modeling complex data, and have a profound understanding of government contracting accounting principles. You thrive in a dynamic environment where you can provide strategic guidance, mentor professionals, and contribute significantly to the achievement of overarching business objectives. You are adept at leveraging financial data to drive performance improvements, implementing best practices in accounting, and leading complex financial projects (e.g., system implementations, audit preparations).

What we are expecting from you (i.e. the qualifications you must have):
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. A Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) or CPA certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, demonstrating a strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Demonstrable experience overseeing information technology functions, including strategic planning, infrastructure management, and system implementations.
  • Demonstrable advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including expertise in pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, HLOOKUPs, INDEX/MATCH, conditional formatting, data validation, and financial modeling.
  • Extensive and proven experience with government contracting accounting, including a deep understanding of DCAA audit requirements, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), indirect rate structures, and cost-plus contract accounting.
  • Proven experience in managing all aspects of the accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of financial consolidation systems, Onestream.
  • Demonstrated success in streamlining accounting processes, implementing financial controls, and improving efficiency within the accounting function.
  • Strong understanding of accounting software and ERP system, Deltek Costpoint.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing IT, finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex accounting, finance, and IT-related projects (e.g., system upgrades, audit readiness, IT infrastructure improvements).
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) applied to accounting functions is a plus.
  • A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong focus on financial integrity, compliance, and providing actionable insights to support business growth.
