Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst - Remote

Symetra's Investment Accounting Department has an exciting new opportunity to join us as aSenior Financial Reporting Analyst!

About the role

As a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst, you'll be joining a team that is responsible for the end-to-end accounting, reporting, and analysis of Commercial and Residential Mortgage Loan Investments within the company's portfolio. This critical role ensures accurate financial data, compliance with GAAP and/or STAT, and timely reporting. As a subject matter expert, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including portfolio management, operations, treasury, and external auditors.

What you will do

• Participate in the monthly accounting close and related reporting cycles
• Perform technical accounting research and apply findings as needed
• Identify and support process improvement initiatives and special projects
• Review journal entries, workpapers, and other deliverables prepared by team members
• Provide guidance and support across the team as needed
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance in all assigned tasks
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing business objectives

Compensation

Salary Range: $77,600 - $129,400 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:

• High School Diploma is required.
• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or MBA is a plus)
• 5+ years of experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred), insurance, or finance, with a focus on mortgage loan reporting
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, including STAT and GAAP
• Highly analytical with excellent communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Skilled in process improvement and able to think creatively to solve problems
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and challenging environment
• Team-oriented with a growth mindset and a desire to continuously improve
• Proven ability to explain complex investment accounting concepts clearly to various audiences, including external vendors
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• Willing and able to work a flexible schedule during peak periods (e.g., quarter-end, year-end, special projects)
