GENERAL SUMMARY
The role of a Mechanical Engineer Intern is to assist the product development, research engineering, or continuation engineering departments with project tasks that utilize and expand the skills and abilities of the intern. Extensive direct guidance from others is expected.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Safety of task completion.
- Tasks below are examples of functions that have been completed with this role:
- Provide design and engineering assistance for proposed product changes.
- Assist with conceptual designs.
- Analyze designs using engineering analysis tools and techniques such as 3D Modeling, FEA, and CFD (SolidWorks experience preferred).
- Assist with prototype development and lab testing.
- Evaluate DeZURIK and competitive products.
- Propose and develop technologies to fulfill customer needs.
- Provide periodic oral and written reports of project status.
- Review instruction manuals and product literature.
- Assist in the research of customer product needs.
- Assist in managing material specification database.
- Create, modify, and maintain calculation and simulation templates.
- Provide assistance to engineering staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Currently attending an accredited Mechanical Engineering Degree program (at least two years completed preferred).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Requires basic Microsoft experience.
- Ability to use aspects of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks experience preferred).
- Ability to learn safety, work safely, and use appropriate PPE.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to conform to changing priorities, demands, and timelines.
- Written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
WORK HOURS
- Work times are flexible and initially must occur between 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with approximately 40 hours expected, Monday through Friday. As internship progresses, work times may be considered outside the boundaries aforementioned.
- If employment is extended outside of summer, a part-time, flexible schedule with a minimum of 10 hours per week is expected during the active school year.
EMPLOYMENT DATES
- Approximately May through July with final timeframe to be agreed upon.
- Exit date will depend on the business needs and the Intern's performance. The minimum expectation is through the end of the summer with the potential of working during the academic year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
- Position requires movement around the facilities.
- Occasional handling of material and components.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
DeZURIK offers a competitive hourly rate in the $21.77 to $23.33 range, based on experience and requirements of the role.
