Manager, Monitoring & Observability

The CoverMyMeds team is looking for a Manager of Monitoring & Observability. The purpose of this role is to 1) own and foster strategic growth across the business to improve transparency, 2) centralize operations in tooling & practice where possible, and 3) build a common narrative in our modernization path within the confines of product operations & trending.

The proper candidate for this role will be working closely with the solutions engineering, application development, and infrastructure delivery teams to ensure departmental relationships & adoption of the tooling and processes evolves across the business unit. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with cross functional knowledge in infrastructure monitoring, software development (agile development practices), distributed systems, and operations (DevOps &ITSM practices).

What you will be responsible for:

  • Lead Observability team in the design, implementation, and evolution of highly available log & metrics aggregation, alert management, infra and service health/dependency visualization/reporting, and many other distributed services that must scale.
  • Contribute in the leading of product teams on monitoring capabilities, and participate in roadmap planning sessions.
  • Ensure the observability platform is optimized and operating to support (and oversight) of defined SLI, SLO, and SLAs on the portfolio of application services.
  • Must possess top notch communication skills including the ability to influence.
  • Understand the eco-system of an observability platform solution and awareness of both delivery & operational use cases to improve overall business operations.
  • Evaluate & understand the different nuances of implementing/upgrading/maintaining the observability stack in scenarios including infra as code.
  • Be able to describe real-life experience orchestration using metric based analysis to maintain client & operational excellence.
  • Perform instrumentation on applications to enable 24x7 monitoring and alerting that helps support and Dev teams with actionable data points for fast root cause identification.
  • Work closely with product owners & application development leaders to establish KPI and other performance guarantee stats or real-time evaluation. (e.g. Product Launch dashboards)
  • Guide App & QA teams to derive Performance Test Cases and perform Root Cause Analysis during Performance tests
  • Oversight/Collaboration of delivery and operations teams to ensure proper usage & tuning to build a "preventative" focus vs. "reactive".
  • Supporting and driving the leadership of CMDB & incident mgmt. tool integrations and process development

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology or a related field. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience, including 6+ years in observability/APM and 2+ years in a leadership role

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Proficiency in Dynatrace, Datadog, LogicMonitor, or similar observability solutions for use in high-volume, revenue-generating applications.
  • Proficiency in log and metric aggregation tools such as Grail, Splunk, Elasticsearch, etc. is required
  • Proven understanding of web technologies and distributed application architecture is required
  • Proven understanding of full life cycle software development methodologies is required
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex application logic flow is required
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

Education/Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Information services or technology or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years in an APM/Observability experience
  • 6+ years monitoring on-premise/cloud platforms, infrastructure & applications
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in AI is a plus.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$99,300 - $165,500
