Compensation Grade: H96Compensation Details: Minimum: $23.00 - Maximum: $23.00 HourlyDepartment (OC) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Responsibilities The Hourly Research Scientist will assist with the development and validation of new laboratory methods, including molecular detection and quantification for viral pathogens including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in human blood and dried blood spots. The incumbent will be responsible for managing specimens, conducting laboratory experiments including troubleshooting experiments, recording laboratory data and maintaining proper documentation, assisting with data analysis, and contributing to the preparation of standard operating procedures. Duties may also include assisting with specimen processing and accessioning, performing quality assurance and laboratory maintenance tasks, and assisting with instrument maintenance. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minium Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a biological science or a related field and two years of related experience; OR a master's degree in that field and one year of related experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience handling and processing human blood specimens, including dried blood spots; experience performing RNA/DNA amplification methods; experience using spreadsheets and data analysis software to manage and analyze laboratory data. Conditions of Employment Hourly, grant funded position expected until approximately 12/02/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. The incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE). The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
