Global and Community Health at UCSC aims at improving health and reducing health inequalities both locally and globally. The program is dedicated to advancing health for all through a collaborative, interdisciplinary program that bridges between the sciences, social sciences, engineering, humanities and arts with shared commitments to health justice and the development of community partnerships.

Faculty from across all five academic divisions teach and participate with us, and students in the B.A. and B.S. work together in interdisciplinary classes in the beginning, middle and end of their degree programs. JOB SUMMARY

The Social Medicine and Community Projects Administrator provides comprehensive administrative and program support to UCSC's undergraduate Global and Community Health (GCH) Program's Taskforce courses and to allied program operations.

The administrator uses knowledge of university policies to ensure that GCH students and faculty meaningfully proceed through their Taskforce journey, ensuring both course delivery and course completion, and, where appropriate, dissemination of course findings. The administrator also collaborates with advisors, faculty and other campus staff to support students' academic success. The position reports directly to the GCH Managing Director and works closely with the GCH B.A. & GCH B.S. Advisors, Health Sciences Internship Coordinator, and GCH Managing Director to support students in consultation with GCH leadership, the major functions of this position include:

  • Administers GCH's Taskforce course program and activities, including some of the following functions: finance, facilities, lecture onboarding and support, payroll, space planning, student services, human resources, communications, or informational technology
  • Coordinates the dissemination of Taskforce reports and allied news updates on GCH website
  • Gathers and analyzes Taskforce course data; prepares reports or analyses of operational activities, evaluates current and proposed services, etc.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $36.12 - $40.37 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

50% - Program Development and Coordination

  • Support UCSC faculty, community-based lecturers and guest speakers in their contributions to Task Force instruction, including end of quarter judging and celebration events;
    Assists and coordinates the processing of community lecturer appointments via the appropriate HR platform and lecturer onboarding;
  • With the guidance of a GCH faculty leadership, liaise with local community based organizations and community leaders to procure Task Force instructors and facilitate internships;
  • Support the dissemination of student research and publications;
  • Develop and maintain a Task Force repository for instructors including a syllabus library, photo library, and sample final reports/posters;
  • Collaborate closely with GCH major advisors and affiliated faculty to ensure seamless and comprehensive support for students and compliance with university policies;
  • In collaboration with GCH leadership, supports Task Force report preparation;
  • Assists with the support of students and the administration of scholarly and professional meetings;
  • Other duties as assigned.

30% - Administrative and Operational Support

  • Participate in the selection, training, and supervision of student employees;
    Process travel and honoraria for guest speakers, faculty candidates and student field visits. Coordinate schedule and logistics with travelers, arrange transportation. Ensure timely and correct submission of travel/compensation-related documents;
  • Process financial transactions for taskforce course activities, including parking, travel and food purchases;
  • Provide backup to program staff as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

20% - Event Planning and Field Visit Support

  • Under the direction of GCH leadership, organize and facilitate Task Force program events and assist with the dissemination of programmatic information;
    Support GCH news communications and web pages, including by sharing lessons from Task Force courses in written reports, media stories, and student showcase events;
  • Coordinate student field visits to Task Force-relevant sites or organizations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated work experience requiring excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage relationships with diverse community based organizations.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and inclusively with individuals from various cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Solid knowledge of common computer application programs and online teamwork tools.
  • Demonstrated event planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and good judgment with confidential matters including confidentiality of donor information or other sensitive or confidential student (FERPA), academic or staff personnel and organizational matters.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Interest in global health, community health, and community-based participatory approaches.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.

  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work a hybrid work schedule and must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
