Engineer

We have an immediate need for an Engineer in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro NC area to perform review of driveway permits, encroachments, road additions, and road abandonments for NCDOT division-managed programs.

This role offers opportunities to maintain existing client relationships, broaden STV's service offerings geographically, be involved in major transportation projects, mentor junior staff, all while promoting the culture of a healthy work-life balance.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with the development of the secondary road construction program, including, but not limited to, surveying, permitting, funding, and utility coordination

• Assist with conducting engineering studies and projects, preparing technical letters and reports, attend planning/zoning meetings

• Provide DOT comments to developers

• Budgeting, computing preliminary construction estimates for several alternate highway designs by developing layouts of interchanges, typical sections and grades, computing horizontal designs such as circular and spiral curve elements, offset distances between two alignments, points of intersection of curves, spirals, and tangents; and transitions between roadway sections

• Develop thoroughfare plans for small towns, counties, and planning regions; perform smaller highway systems studies; or prepare recommendations and supporting analysis for more routine highway projects

• Evaluate data collected by field personnel and incorporate the information into transportation studies

• Review contract plans, specifications, agreements or provisions for accuracy and completeness

• Develop and maintain official records of the State road system

• Develop project schedules

• Develop standard drawings and design manual details

• Perform roadway design and layout

• Assist higher level engineers in the design and contract preparation of roadway and structure construction projects

Specific Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field

• North Carolina Professional Engineer License required

• 10 years of highway construction or design experience

• Previous experience working with NCDOT

• Experience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts

• Experience directing, assisting or training of subordinate employees

• Experience administering contracts

• Knowledgeable in general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying

• Candidates must hold a hold a valid state driver's license and clean driving record.

• Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
