Position Summary The Cargo Sales Manager will be an individual contributor responsible for creating and maintaining excellent relationships with high-value business customers. The role involves promoting and selling air cargo services to and from rural Alaska and building brand loyalty within assigned geographical territories and industries. The manager will develop and retain account relationships, secure new business by providing excellent customer service, and promote the NAC brand to maximize revenue. This person will offer the best possible customer experience and provide hands-on explanations of services and shipment status as needed. Duties
- Travel throughout the assigned territory to call on existing and prospective customers to gain an in-depth understanding of the territory and industry, solicit NAC business, and build brand recognition and loyalty.
- Coordinate and participate in community and customer appreciation events and represent NAC at trade association meetings and conventions in Anchorage and rural Alaska.
- Propose and assist in the regular maintenance of pricing programs for customers.
- Assist in developing new pricing structures, products, and services to address customer needs.
- Partner with the customer relations team to ensure strong customer relationships and superior customer service.
- Assist the team in preparing quotes, bids, contracts, and customer relationship management as necessary.
- Participate in strategic planning efforts with marketing and community affairs staff and in the implementation of the department's sales plan.
- Monitor freight movement for key customers and work closely with operational departments to meet customer expectations.
- Respond to customer questions and requests and follow up with proposals to offer solutions that increase revenue.
- Track, report, and document customer meetings and contact, and provide regular verbal and written updates on accounts.
- Gather market and industry information for NAC's strategic use.
- Prepare and present quarterly performance reports for senior management.
- Stay current with key industry and economic trends throughout Alaska.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Position Qualifications and Requirements To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
- A high school diploma or a general education degree (GED) is required.
- A college degree or equivalent experience in business, marketing, transportation, or logistics is required.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
- Experience as an outside business-to-business account representative is preferred.
- Familiarity with Alaska's rural communities and Anchorage's business community is a plus.
- A working knowledge of airfreight charter operations and services is preferred, but not necessary.
Other Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, subordinates, other employees, customers, and the general public.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, prioritize, multi-task, and work independently.
- A thorough understanding of strategic business planning, sales, marketing, and community relations is a must.
- An understanding of, or a willingness to learn, air freight rates and tariffs is required.
- Excellent customer service and selling skills are required.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to use standard software applications and proficiency in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
- Ability to use Excel and other table-based information for account analysis, rate evaluation, and pricing.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and make logical and rational decisions.
- Ability to identify customer solutions and work creatively in a remote environment.
