The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Based in the Columbia Stem Cell Initiative, this job posting is for a full-time Technician B position in the Smeeton Laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center. Our lab studies musculoskeletal stem cell and developmental biology using zebrafish models.

The Technician B will perform various aspects of running, assisting with managing, and documenting the results of basic molecular biology experiments. This work will be mostly performed under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, but some independent work will be required.

Responsibilities



  • Carry out molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology on zebrafish, including molecular cloning, gene expression profiling, and live imaging with microscopes.
  • Manage zebrafish lines, purify DNA and RNA for the production of transgenic and mutant zebrafish, and carry out microinjections.
  • Perform routine histological techniques, including embedding and sectioning, keep organized laboratory records, maintain lab supplies, prepare solutions, and perform administrative duties to assist with grant applications.
  • Any other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred. One year of related experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and research/writing skills.
  • Willing to work some weekend hours.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
  • Computer skills, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, and Word.


Other Requirements
