Under the direction of the Pain Center Physicians and Physician Assistant, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits/procedures and other tasks related to the visit consistent with their training and skills. The primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Consults with managers to establish work plan and establish priorities.
  • Obtains and documents basic assessment data from clients.
  • Performs diagnostic tests following department standards and procedures.
  • Under the direction of an R.N., provides services to the department's clientele.
  • Facilitates patient flow through the department.
  • Participates in maintaining an adequate level of clinical supplies.
  • Continuously works at establishing good rapport and cooperative working relationships.
  • Accurately documents clinical data.
  • Uses good hand washing techniques and integrates the principles of asepsis.
  • Performs a wide variety of secretarial and non-nursing duties.
  • Understands and supports hospital and nursing standards, policies and procedures.
  • Responds appropriately in an emergency situation.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment.
  • Obtains assistance from appropriate resource personnel when in unfamiliar or unusual situations.
  • Understands and preserves the rights of patients and family.
  • Organizes workload efficiently to complete a reasonable work assignment.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Job Qualifications

Skills:

  • Required: Good communication skills. Sound judgment and problem-solving ability. Basic computer skills which may be obtained thru on the job training. Ability to prioritize. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment and see them through to completion. Accuracy and attention to detail

Experience:

  • Required: Previous experience of one year in a hospital or physician's office. Six to nine months to be proficient in all phases of assigned duties.

Education/Degree requirements:

  • Required: High School diploma. Medical Assistant course or equivalent experience required.
  • Preferred: Associates Degree preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:

  • Required: Medical Assistant, Cardiac-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Basic Life Support certification required. Nursing Assistant certification or other academic preparation may be considered in lieu of certification.
