*Description* We are seeking a skilled and analytical Virtualization Performance Engineer to lead comparative performance evaluations across virtualization platforms including Docker, KVM, and VMware. The ideal candidate will design and execute benchmarking strategies to assess compute, IO, and system-level performance, and provide actionable insights to optimize virtualization deployments. Creating scalable solutions and automation to monitor the health and establish signals to drive understanding of our performance environment. Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client/partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the team. *PROJECT DESCRIPTION* This role will specifically be responsible for testing applications as they migrate from HVD to OLVM, comparing performance results, and informing the Product Owner of the findings. The role also includes providing sign-off based on performance outcomes. As we transition from the legacy HVD platform to Oracle Linux HVD, we need performance testers familiar with both environments to guide and validate the migration process. *REQUIRED SKILLS* 1) VirtIO / Knowledge in one of the hypervisor technologies: VMware ESXi,Microsoft Hyper-V (bare metal version), KVM (when integrated with Linux kernel) 2) Python, shell scripting 3) Grafana, Perf Mon, Splunk and Prometheus 4) DBench, Wireshark 5) Performance Engineering Advance Concept understanding Key Responsibilities: * Design and execute performance benchmarking plans for Docker, KVM, and VMware environments. * Conduct memory, disk I/O, and CPU benchmarking using tools like STREAM (Triad, Scale), DBench, aobench, and asmFish. * Analyze system-level performance using tools like stress-ng, phpbench, and Phoronix Test Suite. * Develop automated performance monitoring dashboards using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK Stack. * Simulate user workloads and thin client interactions to validate scalability and network impact. * Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to validate virtualization configurations. * Document performance baselines, test results, and optimization recommendations. * Stay current with virtualization trends and emerging technologies. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. * Brings 3-5 years of experience in virtualization technologies and performance testing. * Hands-on experience with Docker, KVM/QEMU, and VMware Workstation. * Proficiency in benchmarking tools (e.g., Phoronix Test Suite, STREAM, DBench). * Experience in desktop app profiling, remote desktop protocols, and network analysis. * Strong analytical skills with experience in interpreting system logs, metrics, and traces. * Familiarity with Linux systems and kernel-level virtualization concepts. Westlake, TX *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
