TITLE:

Graphic Designer (Grant-funded)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Senior Graphic Designer (Grant-funded))

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Coordinate graphic design activities for American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) public-facing websites and other digital platforms, in support of communications goals and objectives for grant-related and/or sponsored campaign deliverables. Collaborate with staff and external partners to support implementation of grant activities related to graphic design.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design graphics from idea conception through final production for AAP communications efforts utilized in websites, infographics, tip sheets, social media, slide deck presentations, and images.

2. Incorporate changes into new and revised graphics as directed. Route drafts and solicit feedback from AAP expert groups and/or staff teams, as needed.

3. Edit photos, design layouts, and other grant materials to ensure compliance with all AAP and federal technical specifications and requirements, including 508 compliance and others.

4. Ensure all graphics adhere to AAP brand standards and meet AAP communications goals and objectives as well as those of grants and sponsor activities.

5. Manage the Public Affairs image and digital asset database and image subscription account(s).

6. Maintain documentation and Standard Operating Procedure information outlining best practices and design standards of AAP web graphics.

7. Provide all image management, manipulation, and rendering for use on digital platforms.

8. Regularly report on status of project deliverables to supervisor and other staff.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related discipline required, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

At least two years' related experience in digital and print graphic design, including working within established brand guidelines and standards and with editorial processes (editing, copyediting). Knowledge of print file preparation and handoff and a clear understanding of branding and design hierarchy required. Experience working in a design agency and with health-related content and bilingual design projects (English and Spanish) a plus

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Advanced technical acumen essential with proficiency in graphic design software/Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; understanding of modern web design principles and experience with virtual meeting platforms (e.g. WebEx, Teams), document collaboration sites (e.g., SharePoint), and content management systems (e.g., EpiServer) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously within established deadlines, pay close attention to detail, respond quickly to changing and competing priorities, think creatively, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Excellent organizational, project management, critical thinking, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills required. Some travel, overtime, and evening/weekend work may be required.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $36.09/hr - $38.10/hr. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
