Position Overview: Ameresco is looking for a Manager Technical Accounting to be part of the Corporate Finance Business Unit. This position will be responsible for researching and documenting our position on technical accounting issues and will also support our Financial Reporting initiatives. The ideal candidate will have at least 4-6 years of Big 4/mid-tier public accounting and industry experience. The individual must have the ability to communicate clear and concise ideas both verbally and in writing as well as be a strategic thinker. This role will implement new accounting standards, research proposed accounting standards, and assist with the preparation of financial statements, SEC Filings, and detailed disclosures under GAAP. This is a hybrid role based out of our Framingham, MA office. Responsibilities:
Continuously monitor, document, and communicate the development of new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance to the finance organization, including current and future impact on the Company. Prepare presentations and training materials on new accounting standards as well as assist with training and other activities associated with implementation. Update the Company's policy and footnote disclosures to comply with new standards. Evaluate accounting issues related to non-routine and complex transactions, including purchase accounting, debt transactions/modifications, accounting for VIE's, swaps & embedded derivatives. Conduct research and analysis to identify applicable accounting guidance, and prepare position papers documenting issues, facts and conclusions. Support the Financial Reportingteamin assessing financial reporting risks. Perform GAAP research and work with U.S. and foreign Finance teams to understand accounting practices. Key player in the SEC reporting process, including preparing footnote disclosure for technical accounting areas, effectively utilizing Wdesk software Review monthly lease accounting activity for appropriateness according to ASC 842 and assist with lease accounting questions. Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley requirements are met for relevant areas (e.g., disclosure, lease accounting, stock compensation, equity accounting and external financial and ESG reporting controls) and provide supporting documentation to internal audit regarding completion of control procedures In collaboration with the Senior Director of - Finance Transformation, Reporting & Technical Accounting, continue to improve processes and procedures to streamline the financial and technical accounting process and improve information quality Communicate effectively with different teams across the organization to obtain support documents and schedules for financial reports; ensure completion of supporting documentation for footnote disclosures, periodic disclosures and audit support Review stock grants for stock-based compensation to ensure compliance with ASC 718 and manage financial reporting for the awards using Morgan Stanley's Equity Edge Online reporting tool (formerly e*trade's) Coordinate with external auditors and service providers to provide requested documentation regarding financial documents and accounting treatment for specific transactions Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors' degree in Accounting Minimum of 4 years of experience from a combination of Big 4/mid-tier public accounting and related industry experience CPA license Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP (including ASC 842, ASC 606, ASC 718 and others) and SEC reporting regulations Strong technical accounting reporting experience including experience writing technical accounting memos Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
