Job Description: Shift Supervisor Huntsman is seeking a Shift Supervisor supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Akron, OH. This position will report to the Production Manager. Job Scope The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing plant operations during assigned shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant production. This role provides direct supervision to union employees, coordinates maintenance and operational activities, and acts as the primary point of contact during emergencies. The Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining safety standards, troubleshooting system issues, supporting employee development, and ensuring uninterrupted plant performance across the departments. This position requires strong leadership, technical knowledge of chemical processing knowledge, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed. In summary, as the Shift Supervisor, you will: Supervision & Leadership
- Provide direct supervision to union employees, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of all assigned tasks.
- Communicate work assignments, instructions, and departmental goals clearly and effectively to all shift personnel.
- Monitor operator performance, provide constructive feedback, and address performance deficiencies.
- Uphold union contract provisions from a management perspective, ensuring compliance with all applicable agreements and policies.
- Approve vacation requests and manage hourly work schedules.
Operational Oversight
- Serve as the Operations Coordinator during assigned shifts, coordinating activities across maintenance, production, and support functions.
- Act as the Incident Commander and emergency response liaison during plant emergencies, assessing incidents, implementing corrective actions, and conducting follow-ups.
- Ensure continuous and uninterrupted plant operations by troubleshooting issues related to steam, electricity, water systems, and processing equipment.
- Oversee the generation and management of work orders during off-shift hours.
Training & Compliance
- Train new operators in standard operating procedures and safe work practices.
- Conduct bi-monthly Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) audits to ensure safety compliance.
- Coordinate and track operator certifications (e.g., confined space entry, Elevated Internal Platform (EIP) approvals, hot work permits).
- Lead daily "Zero Harm" safety observations and safety meetings across all shifts for the Latex, RLP, and Boilerhouse departments.
- Plan and execute emergency preparedness drills to maintain high readiness levels.
Housekeeping & Administration
- Assign and oversee housekeeping responsibilities to ensure compliance with facility cleanliness and safety standards.
- Write and submit work orders and support the closure of completed tasks.
- May be responsible for preparing plant utility reports, maintaining monthly performance metrics, and ensuring proper documentation.
- May supervise Boilerhouse operations directly.
- May oversee scheduling and timekeeping functions for plant personnel.
- May lead or support special projects as assigned.
Departmental Expertise
- Develop and maintain in-depth operational knowledge of the Boiler House, Latex, and RLP departments to support plant operations and serve as a subject matter expert.
Qualifications You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States. Minimum Qualifications
- in Process Technology with 5+ years of related experience.
- Or five years' petrochemical industry experience in operations or other manufacturing or maintenance environment
Skills and knowledge
- Experience supervising unionized employees in a chemical or industrial manufacturing environment desired.
- Familiarity with emergency response procedures and incident command structure.
- Previous certification or training in confined space entry, hot work, or Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety procedures.
- Experience with maintenance coordination or operational scheduling.
- Knowledge of SAP, CMMS, or similar work order management systems.
- Formal leadership training or certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, supervisory development programs) desired
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including heat, humidity, confined spaces, and areas requiring respiratory protection.
- Must be medically qualified and able to wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a full-face respirator, as required.
- Must meet all site-specific physical and medical requirements related to chemical plant operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Availability for domestic travel up to 20% as needed
