We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Analyst (Healthcare) to join our team in support of the National Artificial Intelligence Institute (NAII) at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The NAII's mission is to ensure VHA has effective, efficient, and reliable AI solutions deployed across the enterprise that meaningfully improve Veteran health and well-being, enhance healthcare delivery, and strengthen the overall health system.
This role plays a key part in NAII's structured approach to enterprise AI adoption-spanning use case discovery, solutioning, piloting, and scaling-by transforming healthcare data into actionable insights for clinical leaders and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain relational databases, including creation, querying, and application of database rules.
- Develop algorithms and analytic solutions leveraging R, Python, SQL/NoSQL, and related tools.
- Derive insights from structured and unstructured healthcare data, translating findings into actionable recommendations for stakeholders and clinical leadership.
- Work with healthcare terminology standards such as ICD-10, CPT, LOINC, RxNorm, and SNOMED.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support AI-enabled healthcare product adoption across VHA.
- Prepare clear, concise reports, visualizations, and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a similar data analyst or data management role, with emphasis on healthcare.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Strong expertise in database management (design, query optimization, relational database creation and maintenance).
- Proven experience in healthcare data analysis, algorithm development, and advanced analytics.
- Familiarity with healthcare standards, coding systems, and interoperability requirements.
- Preferred: Experience working with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) healthcare data.
- Ability to communicate technical insights clearly to clinical and executive stakeholders.
- Data management - knowledgeable in database rules, writing queries, and relational database creation and management (create, query, relate)
- Experience in the development of algorithms leveraging R, Python, or SQL/NoSQL
- Experience with deriving insights from unstructured and structured healthcare data, and ability to effectively communicate those insights to stakeholders and clinical leaders.
- Experience working with healthcare terminology standards, e.g. ICD-10, CPT, LOINC, RxNorm, SNOMED
- Active Federal Security Clearance required.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
