The Office of Admissions' primary goal is to recruit, admit, and enroll students who will thrive within our collegiate community. This unit oversees the entire process, from recruitment to enrollment.

Regular interaction and contact with the public, including professionals in all disciplines of the university, is involved. These interactions require an accurate knowledge of relaying Admissions policies and procedures set forth by the University and the Office of Admissions.
Our office is actively engaged in diverse activities aimed at promoting and facilitating the wide array of programs, activities, and opportunities available at UNCW. Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Transfer Success Coach is a vital member of the Admissions team and diligently works to recruit and enroll students from the central region of North Carolina who will perform successfully in the UNCW collegiate community. This position represents UNCW and the Office of Admissions at partner community colleges in the assigned region of central North Carolina (Raleigh, NC area). This position has daily, continual contact with internal and external constituents. This position must be knowledgeable of all Admissions policies and procedures set forth by the University and the Office of Admissions, and be able to articulate that knowledge to students, families, community college staff, faculty, and others. This position Is highly involved in providing comprehensive recruitment, admissions counseling, and pre-enrollment advising services to prospective students seeking to transfer to UNCW. This position is based in the Raleigh, NC area, at Wake Technical Community College and requires extensive travel in the surrounding areas to attract qualified candidates and meet established goals to increase enrollment at UNCW.

The Transfer Success Coach must have a strong ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and operate with a sense of urgency and attention to goal attainment when managing the day-to-day Admissions activities and priorities of the position. Transfer Success Coaches are required to operate with a significant amount of autonomy. The main job functions include the following:

  • Provide pre-enrollment advising to prospective transfer students to UNCW at assigned community colleges; including assisting students with choosing transferable courses at the community college that will work towards degree progress at UNCW.
  • Provide pre-admission counseling to prospective transfer students to UNCW at assigned community colleges, including helping students locate resources and build a plan to transfer successfully.
  • Review transfer admission applications in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
  • Proactively engage with students through virtual or in-person meetings, targeted communication, or other opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with various community partners, such as community colleges, community organizations, and military partners.
  • Develop multifaceted reports and queries for use in a variety of areas; collaborate with the Associate Director of Transfer Admissions to develop and manage a regional recruitment plan and execute the plan within their region.
  • Utilize data to create a recruitment travel plan and schedule recruitment visits with assigned regional community colleges.
  • Plan and coordinate events within their assigned regions, manage and maintain event budgets, and represent UNCW through in-person or virtual events and programming.
  • Coordinate and deliver presentations to various stakeholders including prospective students, community college advisors and staff, and community partners.
  • Work closely with University College advising staff and other academic advising offices on campus to share pertinent information about incoming transfer students and ensure their long-term success at UNCW.
  • Work closely with Transfer Partnerships to stay current on UNC System transfer requirements and UNCW partnership agreements; assist with facilitating partnership programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Previous experience in a post-secondary admissions office.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events.
  • Ability to represent the department in a professional and conscientious manner; use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of situations and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to maintain high quality standards of work, leadership, ethics, commitment, professional responsibility, and judgment.
  • Ability to travel in- and out-of-state.
