Route Leader Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time, Seasonal Part Time

Overview:

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide on mountain expertise in avalanche mitigation work as a route leader. Part time applicants are at the discretion of the Avalanche Mitigation Manager based on prior experience. The Route Leader Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Avalanche Mitigation Manager, Avalanche Mitigation Supervisor, and Ski Patrol Manager. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key requirements:
  • Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
  • Expert skills in Solitude avalanche mitigation work, explosive handling, and partner rescue
  • Pro 1 certification
  • Intimate knowledge of Solitude terrain and the ability to forecast and lead at least one route (excluding routes 1,2,9, 13, and 16) as determined by the Avalanche Mitigation Manager).
  • Able to give verbal direction in hazardous avalanche terrain
  • Understanding of Solitude mitigation operations including radio checks
  • Ski Patrol Level 2 or above


Duties:
  • Be available on scheduled days to conduct avalanche mitigation work as a route leader
  • Willingness to pick up mitigation shifts if needed
  • Able to teach and direct route partners in mitigation work
  • Responsible for properly documenting routes led
  • Dig at least one snow pit each month on a route you routinely lead
  • Timely radio checks and hazard communication
